IV Drip FAQ – Everything You Need to Know

This IV drip Khao Lak FAQ brings together the questions guests ask us most, from booking and health screening to payment, diving and aftercare. If your question isn’t here, message us. We would much rather you ask before booking than wonder during the visit.

Booking and visits

How do I book an IV drip?

Use the booking form on our homepage or the contact links at the bottom of this page. Tell us where you are staying, which drip you are interested in, how many guests and a preferred time. We confirm the time and price before the nurse sets off.

How quickly can a nurse arrive, and what are your hours?

Message us to check today’s availability and arrival time. It depends on where you are staying and how busy the day is, so we will give you a realistic time when you book rather than a promise we can’t keep.

Which areas do you cover?

We visit hotels, villas and homes in Bang Niang, Nang Thong, Khuk Khak, Pakarang Cape, Bang Sak, Khao Lak Lamru and Takua Pa. If you are staying somewhere else nearby, message us before you book and we will tell you honestly whether we can reach you.

Do I need to tell my hotel a nurse is coming?

It helps. Some hotels ask visitors to sign in at reception, so a quick word with the front desk means the nurse can come straight up to your room.

The drip itself

How long does an IV drip take?

It depends on the drip and on the rate the nurse sets for you after the health check. We tell you the expected duration when you book, and the nurse can confirm it before starting. Allow a little extra time for the screening and aftercare.

Does it hurt?

Most people feel a short, sharp scratch as the small cannula goes into a vein in the arm, then very little. Some notice a cool feeling in the arm while the fluid runs. If you are nervous about needles, tell the nurse. They can take things slowly and have you lie down.

What is in the drips?

Drips are built around sterile IV fluid with electrolytes. Depending on the drip, they commonly include vitamins and, where suitable, other ingredients. The nurse explains exactly what is in your bag before it starts, and nothing is added without asking you first.

Will a drip cure my hangover or illness?

No, and we won’t pretend otherwise. A drip may help you feel rehydrated faster and can offer some relief from symptoms. It doesn’t clear alcohol from your body, cure illness or replace a doctor.

Health screening and safety

Who gives the drip?

A registered nurse places and monitors every drip, using sterile, single-use equipment. The nurse stays with you for the whole drip and only leaves once the cannula is out and you have been checked over.

What happens during the health screening?

Before every drip, the nurse asks about your health, long-term conditions, medication, allergies and whether you are or might be pregnant, and checks your vital signs. It takes a few minutes and it is the main way we make sure a drip is suitable for you that day.

Who shouldn’t have an IV drip?

A drip may not be suitable, or may need a doctor’s approval first, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a heart or kidney condition, take regular medication such as blood thinners or blood pressure tablets, have allergies to any ingredient or are under 18. Our IV drip safety protocol explains this in full.

Can children have an IV drip?

Please ask us before booking for anyone under 18. Children who are dehydrated or unwell should be seen by a doctor or at a hospital. If you are travelling with children and aren’t sure what to do, a doctor is the right first step.

Are there side effects?

Most are minor: bruising or soreness where the cannula went in, or feeling light-headed. Rarely, the site can become infected or someone reacts to an ingredient. Contact us if the site becomes red, hot or swollen, and call 1669 if you have signs of a serious reaction such as swelling of the face or difficulty breathing.

When should I see a doctor instead?

If you have chest pain, difficulty breathing, confusion, fainting, a high fever, vomiting that won’t stop or blood in vomit or stools, please don’t book a drip. Call 1669, Thailand’s emergency number, or go straight to hospital.

Prices and payment

How much does an IV drip cost?

Message us for the current price of any drip. Every price includes the nurse visit within our service area, the health screening and all equipment. You can see the full menu on our IV drip price list for Khao Lak.

How do I pay?

Please ask about payment when you book. We will tell you which payment options are available for your visit and when payment is due, so there are no surprises when the nurse arrives.

Do I pay if the nurse says a drip isn’t suitable?

You only pay for the drip you agree on. If the screening shows a drip isn’t right for you, the nurse will explain why. Ask us when you book if you would like to know how this works for your visit.

Groups, diving and aftercare

Can several people have a drip at the same visit?

Yes. Tell us how many guests when you book and message us for group prices. Each person has their own screening, and larger groups may need more than one nurse, so we plan the visit in advance.

Can I dive after an IV drip?

There is no simple yes or no. It depends on why you needed the drip, what was in it and how you feel. Tell the nurse if you plan to dive, and check with your dive operator before going back in the water. Any symptoms after diving, such as joint pain, numbness or tingling, need a doctor straight away.

What should I do after my drip?

Keep drinking water, eat something light, stay out of the midday sun and take it easy for the rest of the day. Leave the small dressing on for a while, and follow any specific advice the nurse gives you about swimming or exercise.

Can I drink alcohol after a drip?

We would gently suggest giving your body the rest of the day off. A drip doesn’t make the next round of drinks any safer. If you do drink, alternate with water and eat properly.

Still have a question?

Ask us anything before you book, from how long a drip is likely to take to whether it is the right choice at all. If a drink of water and a rest in the shade is all you need, we will tell you. When you are ready, tell us where you are staying and we will confirm a time with you. You can also read more about our mobile IV drip service in Khao Lak.
